This interactive workshop will occur on July 20th from 5:30-7 pm on community mapmaking, in support of Ohio’s redistricting process. The OEC Democracy Team will facilitate community mapmaking as a tool to define regions, assets, and shared interests of the people who live near one another. Together, we will demonstrate the power of these maps to provide important information to decision makers in the redistricting process.
Workshop attendees will use the online tool DistrictR to define their community boundaries, institutions, assets, and issues. Community maps inform the redistricting process and help mapmakers identify equitable locations for boundaries based on geographic and community interests, rather than partisan interests. Participants will also learn about opportunities to participate in redistricting public hearings and share testimony about the importance of fair maps.
Workshop attendees have the option to participate in person or digitally via zoom. For the in-person event, participants have the option to bring their own portable device (laptop, ipad) or use technology provided.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
